Design and Technology

Our subject leader for Design and Technology is Mrs Barden.

At Debden, DT is an inspiring, meaningful, practical subject, in which children have the opportunity to design and make functional and innovative products. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

Our curriculum develops children’s skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials, including food. It encourages children's creativity and encourages them to think about important real-world issues.

In each unit of learning, teachers systematically aim to help children to develop their skills of researching and designing, making and evaluating. They also develop and draw on a range of other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
