Climate Control

At Debden Church of England Primary Academy, OUR VISION is to be a highly purposeful, caring Christian community, in which our children:

-Progress exceptionally well academically, across a broad and knowledge-rich curriculum.

-Develop into confident, compassionate, well-rounded individuals.

-Become equipped with the learning and communication skills needed to deal with future challenges.

-Create happy, positive memories of their childhood.

-Care for others through service, kindness, and a sense of justice, becoming active global citizens.

That they may have life in all its fullness- John 10:10

That is why climate education and sustainability sit at the heart of our school vision.  Our vision, “that they may have life in all its fullness,” calls us to care for God’s creation so that people and the planet can flourish. Taking climate action shows love for our global neighbours and protects the wellbeing of both current and future generations. Together, we are taking meaningful steps to protect the environment, build resilience to a changing climate, and equip our young people with the knowledge and skills to care for the world as responsible global citizens.

Climate Action Plan

In line with the Department for Education’s national strategy, all schools must have a clear plan for climate action by 2025. Through this plan, we will strive to:

  • Reduce our carbon footprint through energy efficiency and renewable options
  • Adapt our school environment to be more resilient to and prepared for future climate change
  • Protect and encourage biodiversity in our grounds
  • Promote climate education and global citizenship across our curriculum

Our plan will play a key part in our decision making at both planning and operation stages. Progress will be reviewed termly and updated every three years to ensure that our plan remains ambitious and meaningful.

Who is responsible for implementing our climate action plan?

Across our schools and trust, everyone has a part to play:

  • Pupils – leading campaigns/ projects such as Global Neighbours and other projects run by our Environment and School Improvement committee of the student council.
  • Staff – modelling eco-friendly behaviours around the school, considering the role of sustainability within their teaching across the curriculum, and supporting whole school initiatives such as active travel and waste reduction
  • Families – taking part in second hand uniform events, supporting meat free lunch options, and helping children walk, cycle, or scoot to school.
  • Directors, Governors and Leadership – ensuring sustainability is at the centre of trust and school decisions, from funding priorities to curriculum design to premises development.
